Obituary for Edith Stokely Hampton

Edith Rose Ella Stokely Hampton, 92, of Marshall, went home to be with the Lord peacefully Friday, March 24, 2017.

Edith was born November 8, 1924 in Madison County to her late parents Leonard and Edna Stokely and was the 4th child of 8 siblings. She was a retiree of French Broad Electric Membership Cooperative after nearly 50 years of faithful service. She has served on the Marshall Housing Authority Board since 2002 and was the Chairman for ten years. Edith was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Mars Hill, NC. Edith was well known in the community for being a wonderful cook.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Jacob Hampton; brothers, William, Kenneth, Curtis, Clinton and Troy Stokely; sister, Ethel Jackson.

She is survived by her brother, Athelston A. Stokely; 16 nieces and nephews who thought of Edith as their second mother and loved her dearly; numerous great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews; a special thank you to her god daughter and caregiver, Ila Teague; as well as many wonderful friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2017 in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Services with Reverend Randy Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnett Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
