Dennis Atmon Tweed, 82, of Marshall went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 4, 2018 at the John F. Keever Solace center in Asheville after a brief battle with cancer.
Mr. Tweed was born April 14, 1936 in Madison County to his late parents Milton P. Tweed and Rosey Cutshall Tweed. He was a member of Laurel High School class of 1957 and a veteran of the US Army stationed in France. Dennis was preceded in death by sisters Shelby Tweed, Goldia Franklin, Demania Gentry, Margie Gimbert; brothers Denver, Rufus, Russell, Winston, and Hoye Tweed.
Surviving to forever cherish and honor his memory, his wife of 60 years Marie Hensley Tweed; three sons, Rick (Joyce) Tweed, Jeff (Elaine) Tweed, and Mike (Susan) Tweed. Three grandchildren, Amanda (Caleb) Hunter, Amanda (Michael) Rice, and Stacy (Aaron) Rich. Three great-grandchildren, Ethan and Evan Rich, and Reagan Hunter. Two brothers, William and Gilbert Tweed; two sisters, Barbara Jenkins and Betty Davis. Many nieces and nephews whom he greatly enjoyed as well.
Dad loved serving the Lord and loved his church family where he was a member and Sunday school teacher at Memorial Church of God most of his life. Dennis lived and farmed for many years in the White Rock community of Madison County and relocated to Marshall later in life. He was always willing to help for causes that he believed to be beneficial to the community like helping to build Memorial Church of God, Church Fellowship Hall, WNC Church of God Campground, fundraising for the startup of the Laurel medical and pharmacy center in addition to being an active board member, and the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department. He served as a great example and will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
The family will receive friends at Madison Funeral Home from 6-8pm on June 8th with the funeral the next day at 11am in the funeral home chapel with the reverends Ralph Shelton and Richard Lowe officiating with a full military ceremony. Burial will in the Cutshall Cemetery on Cutshall Town Road in the White Rock community.
