Obituary for Della "Hazel" Moore

Della “Hazel” Moore, 96, of Hot Springs, returned to her heavenly home after a brief illness. Her devotion to her family, and her firm belief in God supported her in her life, and ultimately gave her peace.
Hazel was born to the late Burnett and Cora Parks Moore in Johnson City, Tennessee on May 31, 1922. Hazel came to live in Hot Springs shortly after her birth, where she lived her life and created her legacy researching and sharing the history of her beloved Hot Springs. She was a faithful member of her church, and never lost sight of her belief throughout all her trials and tribulations.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, brothers: Grover, Wilfred, Fred and Frank, and her sister Allie Mae Cook.
Hazel is survived by three nieces: Charlotte (Don, deceased) Wyatt of Weaverville, NC, Ronda (Lemuel) Watson of Greensboro, NC and Shawn (John) Mallas of Independence, Missouri; three nephews: Larry (Lynn) Moore of Travelers Rest, SC, Garry (Phyllis, deceased) Moore of Marshall, NC and Burnett (Gail) Moore of Foley, Alabama. Hazel is also survived by her great nieces and nephews: Michelle Wyatt Mrozkowski, Shawna (Shawn) Poole, Samuel Allen Watson, Ruth Ann (Miki) Jenkins, Patricia (Steven) Smith, Chris (Misty) Mallas, John (Krista) Mallas, Kimberly (William) Kelly, Deborah (Adam) Howard, and Rebecca (Justin) Stewart; great-great nieces and nephews include: Wyatt & Georgia Mrozkowski, Grace, Tristan, & Bryson Poole, Jonah, Matthias & Sadie Mae Jenkins, Leah & Nicole Smith, Hailey & Kaitlyn Mallas, Kayte Kelly, Levi, Noah, Ada, and Jacob Howard.
During her lifetime, “Hazel’s Beauty Shop” was open for over 63 years where she was the sole owner and operator. Hazel contributed to articles, contributed to the works of other authors, as well as authored two of her own books on the history of Hot Springs. To many people in the community, and around the country, she is known as the Town Historian. After retiring from her beauty shop, Hazel spent her time working at the Hot Springs Library for over seven years. Along with being a beautician, historian, author, and part time librarian, she was also an artist of oil paintings.
Hazel was kind and soft spoken, and always had time to help even with the smallest of tasks. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator.
Hazel’s family will have visitation at Hot Springs Baptist Church on Sunday, June 10th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Her Celebration of Life will be at 4:00 pm with burial to follow at Fairview UMC Cemetery, also in Hot Springs. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to Friends of Hot Springs Library in her honor.
