Obituary for Athelston Avery Stokely

Athelston Avery Stokely, 79, of Asheville, went home to be with the Lord peacefully Tuesday, October 10, 2017.
Athelston was born January 12, 1938 in Madison County to his late parents Leonard and Edna Stokely and was the 8th child of 8 siblings.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his five brothers: William, Kenneth, Curtis, Clinton and Troy Stokely and two sisters: Ethel Jackson and Edith Hampton.
He is survived by his 16 nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews; a special thank you to his dear friend and caregiver, Ila Teague; as well as many wonderful friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017 in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Services. Burial will follow in the Barnett Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10 – 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
