Obituary for Adam David Worley

On December 31st 2017, Adam Worley was called home during a kayaking accident while doing what he loved to do… pursuing God and pursuing adventure. On January 1st, 2018 he was found on the shores of Shackelford Banks, N.C., his absolute favorite place to draw near to God. Adam was a cherished son, husband, father, brother, and mentor to all who knew him. Though he was only with us for a short time, he packed a lot of life into 39 years, and made an impact on others that cannot be denied.

Adam graduated from Madison High School in 1996 and from NC State University in 2001 with a degree in Parks and Recreation, with a focus in outdoor leadership. He later earned a Math and Education Licensure from Greensboro College, and went on to become the Founding Middle School Director at High Point Friends School. In 2016, he returned to his hometown of Marshall, NC, where he began teaching math at Madison Early College High School.

In 2003, he married his soul mate, Lindley, who has always shared his passion for life. Together, they pursued many adventures over the years, while raising their 2 beautiful girls, Skylin (now 7 yrs.) and Juna (now 6 yrs). He is the Grandson of Ralph and June Worley and Hiram and Frankie Wallin of Marshall. He is survived by his parents, David and Beth Worley of Marshall; His sister, April Worley Collins and husband Chris Collins of Weaverville; and countless Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews. In addition to his immediate family, are numerous students, faculty and staff who will always cherish the memories he has created with them.

One of his proudest accomplishments was completing a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, earning his trail name “Hot Pants,” in the summer of 2009. He went on to inspire many others by sharing countless lessons learned from the trip while teaching in churches and schools.

In his free time, he travelled throughout the southeast looking to explore and to mine the riches and wisdom that come from being in God’s creation. He was always on the go, always pushing ahead, eagerly awaiting the next new experience just up around the bend.

Those of us who knew him well have no doubts about where he resides now. He loved God with all his heart and he devoted himself to the good of others in every way. He loved being near God in nature and left this life doing exactly what he craved. Adam wouldn't want us to live in sorrow but to live each day with passion, excitement, fervor and love. We honor his life today and always.

Arrangements are being made through Madison Funeral Home, Marshall, NC., with services to be held at Madison High School Gymnasium, Marshall, NC on Sunday January 7th, 2018. Visitation will be open at 11:30 am and funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the gymnasium. Burial will be in the J. Lee Henderson Cemetery located on Big Branch Rd., Marshall, N.C.
