CANDLER – Ilene J. Lewis Atkins, 70, went to be with the Lord Friday, July 2, 2010.
Ilene was born in Kingsport, Tenn., on Feb. 29, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Rev. E. L. Lewis and Etta McCurry Lewis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Wesley Alan Atkins, infant grandson, Wesley Atkins and her brother, William “Bill” Lewis.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, John Wesley Atkins of Candler, sons, John E. “Eddie” Atkins and wife, Pat of Candler and Robert A. “Tony” Atkins of Hendersonville; sisters, Inez Lewis Grindstaff and Shirley Lewis Harden of Elizabethton, Tenn., and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, July 5th in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Home, Marshall with the Rev. Thomas Freeman officiating.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday at the Ramsey Cemetery in Marshall with Chaplain Ed Couser officiating.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff of Pisgah Manor Health Care Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to be donated to various charities in her honor.
