LEICESTER – Charles William Freeman, 86, of Leicester, passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2010.
Mr. Freeman was born Nov. 6, 1923 in Madison County and had lived in Buncombe County for most of his life. He attended Leicester Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. He loved good biblical preaching and gospel music. Charles enjoyed gardening and anything pertaining to the outdoors, especially riding through the Farmer’s Market. He always treasured his family getting together on special occasions. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Violet G. Freeman, a daughter, Paula Marie; his parents, Clifford and Louise Payne Freeman and brothers, Earl and Fred Freeman.
Surviving are his son, Kenneth (Iva) Freeman of Leicester; daughters, Pansy (Butch) Peele of Rocky Mount and Rose (Charles) Steelman of Fletcher; grandchildren, Anthony (Sheila) Freeman, Stevie Freeman, Stanley (Melissa) Robinson and Scottie (Maria) Robinson, Brian (Tamara) Steelman, Rena´ Steelman Jones and Karen (Tim) Parker; fourteen great grandchildren, brother, Gene (Carta) Freeman; sister-in-law, Wilma Freeman; several nieces, nephews and many friends; and a special thanks to caregiver, Larry Penix and all the staff of the Laurels of Greentree Ridge.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Home with the Reverends Charles Rogers and David Plemmons officiating. Interment will follow in the Western Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family requests that memorials be made to Leicester Baptist Church.
