HOT SPRINGS – Mattie Ray Ramsey, 68, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2010.

Mrs. Ramsey was born July 22, 1941 in Madison County where she lived all her life. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church where she played the piano for 58 years and touched many lives through her Testimony. Mrs. Ramsey was the Special Ed Teacher for 32 years at Hot Springs Elementary School. Her hobbies were: trout fishing, sports, and her Country Sounds Band, that she traveled with on the weekends and marvelously played the piano for 50 plus years. She played basketball in 1957 for the Hot Springs Blue Devils and scored a record setting 32 points in one game. Mrs. Ramsey was a special person, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, mother-in-law and will be missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred N. and Stella Gragg Lawson; sister, Juanita Tolley; and brother, Julius Lawson.

Survivng are her husband of 52 years, Jerry E. Ramsey, of the home; daughter, Teresa Hicks and her husband, Glenn, of Strawberry Plains. TN; son, Jerry Ray Ramsey and his wife, Linda, of Asheville; four grandchildren, Brian Puryear, Christy Warwick, Travis Ramsey, and Tiffany Hicks; six great-grandchildren, Kylee and Hayden Warwick, Hunter and Austin Puryear and Bryce and Paige Hicks; brother, David Lee Lawson, of Kernersville and a special niece, Lillian Welenc. Additionally, she will be missed by her many loyal music fans.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Home with the Revs. Randy Wood and Brian Puryear officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
